We spoke to Evie Wyatt, a Human Resources Apprentice with Kier, a partner in the EKFB Joint Venture, who has recently joined our High Speed Rail Apprentice Network.
Can you describe your role in a few words?
I work with a variety of teams within the people function of the joint venture.
What were you doing prior to your Apprenticeship?
Working in electrical insurance operations.
What was your perception of the sector before you started your apprenticeship?
I thought the industry was very fast paced with lots of new and exciting things happening constantly. Being at the forefront of innovation and working on projects that have never been seen in this space before really intrigued me.
What interested you in joining Kier?
Kier is a partner in the EKFB Joint Venture, and as part of the HS2 project is something that will change UK infrastructure in many ways. As someone who has joined the project later down the line I think it’s been amazing to see how the 4 companies have merged together onto this project and how vast the project is. Being able to work on something this massive is such an incredible opportunity.
What are the key things you’ve learnt so far in your job?
The core roles that HR plays in the business and along the project, which are very wide ranging.
What is the most exciting part of your role?
Working on a joint venture means that processes have been merged from all 4 companies into EKFB processes, being able to see firsthand how these all come together in all departments across the project and learning about how the project has developed.
Have you worked on the HS2 project through your apprenticeship?
Yes I have.
What would you like to do after completing your apprenticeship?
After completing my apprenticeship I intend to carry on learning and developing through the HR space and watch the project continue grow and develop.
