We spoke to Apprentice Building Surveyor Daniel Bunn.
Can you describe your role in a few words?
I am an apprentice building surveyor at the AECOM Aldgate office. I assist my team in delivering building surveying professional services and project delivery solutions to public, private and third sector clients across all sectors.
What were you doing prior to your Apprenticeship?
I took a gap year out working in the leisure industry as well as complete work experience in quantity surveying and building surveying. Prior to this, I completed my A-Levels in Physical Education, Psychology and Drama.
What was your perception of the sector before you started your apprenticeship?
I have always had a great interest in the construction and property industry, and knew there will always be a strong demand for this sector.
What interested you in joining AECOM?
I did some research and discovered that AECOM are a leading infrastructure company, offering expert services all the way through the project lifecycle. Their clients span the public and private sectors and tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges and pioneer innovative solutions that push the limits for what is possible. I was determined to kickstart my career at this high standard because it would enable me to be part of an influential company that is committed to building communities and making a meaningful difference in the world.
What are the key things you’ve learnt so far in your job?
My apprenticeship has taught me the value of time management, gaining on site experience and interacting with clients.
What is the most exciting part of your role?
Making connections with industry leaders in the company and gaining priceless knowledge and skills.
Have you worked on the HS2 project through your apprenticeship?
Not yet.
What would you like to do after completing your apprenticeship?
I want to keep moving up in my career, and hopefully travel with work.
