We spoke to James Bloor, Trainee Project Controls Coordinator with Keltbray
Can you describe your role in a few words?
My role involves monitoring the project and identifying any challenges or risks to the project budget and schedule. I use P6 Programmes, which is a planning tool that helps keep track of progress and cost/time delay. I also use Excel documents to report and analyse throughout a project’s lifecycle.
What were you doing prior to your Apprenticeship?
I was working as a landscape gardener.
What was your perception of the industry before you started your apprenticeship?
I didn’t really have one to be honest!
What interested you in joining Keltbray?
I thought my apprenticeship with Keltbray would give me a clear pathway for responsibility on an important project.
What are the key things you’ve learnt so far in your job?
- How CL31 and Cl32 Programmes work
- How to report in a project
- How to resource load P6
What is the most exciting part of your role?
Seeing a project getting built and coming to life on time is really exciting.
What would you like to do after completing your apprenticeship?
I’m still not sure, probably into planning as I am enjoying my current role.
